Blessing Okagbare placed fourth in the long jump event with a leap of 6.66m Thursday night at the Athletissima IAAF Diamond League meeting in Laussane,Switzerland.
It was the Nigerian’s first competition in the event since she won a silver medal at the IAAF World Championships in Moscow,Russia two years ago.
USA’s world leader in the event at 7.12m,Tianna Bartoletta won with a jump of 6.86m with Britain’s Shara Proctor (6.79m) and Christabel Nettey of Canada (6.68m) coming second and third respectively.
In the women’s 400m,Reginna George failed to recliam her position as the fifth fastest Nigerian of all time in the event after running a rather disappointing 51.99 seconds to place sixth.
Patience Okon’s 50.76 seconds run last Sunday at La Chaux-de-Fond in Switzerland ensured she supplanted George as the fifth fastest ever Nigerian woman over 400m after Falilat Ogunkoya (49.10),Charity Opara (49.29),Fatimah Yusuf (49.43A) and Olabisi Afolabi (50.30).
George has a 50.84 seconds personal best which she ran at the semi-final stage of the IAAF Worlds in Moscow in 2013 and she is now the sixth fastest Nigerian woman of all time in the event.
