“Disappointed” Sweden Boss Confident Of Progress Despite Dramatic Defeat To Germany

Sweden coach Janne Andersson has expressed confidence that his team still have a very good chance of making it to the round of 16 despite losing 2-1 to 10-man Germany in dramatic fashion in Group F of the Russia 2018 FIFA World Cup on Saturday.

Andersson’s side were on the verge of claiming a vital draw against the reigning champion before Real Madrid star Toni Kroos’ 95th minute free-kick which swung the win in Germany’s favour.

Ola Toivolen had given Sweden the lead but Man of the Match winner Marco Reus drew Germany level.

Germany who are now second on three points, will face South Korea in their next game while Sweden also on three points will face leaders Mexico also on Wednesday.

“This is probably the heaviest ending to a game in my career,” Andersson said in his post-match press conference. “But the whole group is still alive, so we will have to lick our wounds and come back for the next match.
“We still have an excellent chance to qualify. We’re going to do everything we can to achieve that when we get as far as Wednesday. But emotionally right now we are just so disappointed that we didn’t get a single point.”
