Disu Tips Flying Eagles For AYC Success

Former Flying Eagles star Tajudeen Disu is confident that the current Nigeria U20 national side, Flying Eagles, coached by Manu Garba can win the African Youth Championship in Senegal, reports Completesportsnigeria.com.

The Flying Eagles have been in promising form in the NPFL Super-6 Tournament in Abuja where they have claimed some scalps defeating top Premier League sides, Enyimba, Kano Pillars, Warri Wolves and Dolphins; clubs who will represent Nigeria in the CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup in 2015.

The Flying Eagles will round off their games today (Sunday) with a game against the U23 Eagles, the Dream Team VI, who are second on the log.

Disu spoke to Completesportsnigeria.com from the USA about the prospect of the team composed mainly of youngsters who won the 2013 FIFA U17 World Cup in the UAE.

“Its great to see the lads performing so wonderfully against supposedly tougher and bigger opponents.

“The coaches led by Manu Garba and Nduka Ugbade have really done well. The performance of the team shows that their U17 feat was no fluke.

Disu went on to suggest that the Flying Eagles will cope without the duo of Kelechi Iheanacho and Chidiebere Nwakali at the AYC in Senegal.

Manchester City refused to release the dynamic stars due to injury and the winter transfer window.

“They will no doubt miss the contributions of Iheanacho and Nwakali,  but that means opportunities for some other players to stake claims in the team and by virtue of their results thus far, I’m certain the boys can win the AYC and qualify for the U20 World Cup, ” Disu, who played for Nigeria in the 1983 U20 World Cup in Mexico told Completesportsnigeria.com.

Tajudeen Disu’s brother, Tunde, led the U20’s to the final of the 1989 U20 World Cup in Saudi Arabia.
