Novak Djokovic admitted he wasn’t at his best but was pleased to record a 6-4 6-1 win over Alexander Zverev in the ATP Tour Finals. Djokovic is now on the verge of the semi-finals and will book his last-four place if John Isner sees off Marin Cilic at the O2 on Wednesday evening.

The Serbian star edged a tight first set before taking control in the second but stressed afterwards he has plenty of room for improvement in London as he looks to win the end-of-season event for the first time since 2015.

He told the BBC: “I don’t think it was breathtaking tennis from both of us but a win is a win. I played well mid-way through the second set and started to swing through the ball. “I had not served that well but he made a lot of unforced errors which helped me to win.

“Being 5-4 down and a break down, playing against the Zverev serve, I found it more difficult than in the first match against John Isner. He has a big first serve. His percentage dropped in the second set and that allowed me to step in.”
