Dolphins of Port Harcourt, have been thrown out of this year’s CAF Confederation Cup for failing to arrive in time for last weekend’s game at Club Africain.
According to supersport.com, CAF, in its decision communicated through the Nigeria Football Federation [NFF] to Dolphins on Thursday, stated that Dolphins failed to plan for their arrival at the match venue in proper time “to avoid any unforeseen situations.”
The African body also said the Nigeria Professional Football League [NPFL] club and the NFF only informed CAF a day before the match about the flight hiccups encountered by the team.
CAF further stated that neither Dolphins nor the NFF asked for the postponement or shift in date of the match.
The CAF inter-clubs committee said the African football governing body prevailed over the host team and federation to give Dolphins 30-minute grace before the walkover ceremony was performed.
CAF invoked Chapter XI, Article 17 of the 2015 Caf Confederation Cup regulations, thereby eliminating Dolphins from the competition while Club Africain progress into the second round without kicking a ball.
