Donald Excited For Competitive Return

Luke Donald says he is “looking forward” to playing golf again at this week’s Alfred Dunhill Links Championship.

Seven-time European Tour winner Donald has struggled with injuries this season and his last tournament appearance came back in April at the RBC Heritage, where he missed the cut.

England’s former number one has been working hard on his recovery over the past five months and he arrives in Scotland off the back of a successful Ryder Cup victory with Europe, having been one of Thomas Bjorn’s vice-captains for the event at Le Golf National.

This week’s event is different from the rest on tour, with the tournament being played over three different courses – the Old Course at St Andrews, the Championship Course at Carnoustie and Kingsbarns Golf Links – while each professional will play with an amateur.

Donald, who had a practice round on Tuesday, says he is eager to get back into competitive golf when the action kicks off on Thursday.

“I’ve been out for almost five months now,” said the former world number one. “It’s disappointing to have to be on the sidelines for so long but I’ve been making some good progress with my back and looking forward to testing it out this week.”
