By Sab Osuji In Brazzaville:

Nigeria’s men’s basketball team, D’Tigers, ended their sojourn at the 2015 All Africa Games with a bronze medal after beating Mali 57-55 on Friday here in Congo.

The Afrobasket champions who could not replicate their continental championship feat at the All Africa Games, lost to Egypt in the semi-final, only to compensate their participation win a bronze medal.

The Nigerians won the first quarter by 22-7 while Mali took advantage of the second quarter with a 10-8 points lead to end the first half with 30-17 advantage to Nigeria.

The second half was clearly dominated by the Malians but their efforts were not good enough to earn them the bronze as points accumulation from the first half helped the Nigerians to finish third in Congo.

Mali led the third quarter with 22-15 points while the last quarter was also won by the Malians with 16-12 advantage but Nigeria still went ahead to mount the podium.

Meanwhile, the women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, who had an impressive semi-final game against Angola, fell like a pack of cards to Mali in their final game of the 2015 All Africa Games in Congo Brazzaville to win silver.

The Nigerian girls against all expectations were beaten 73-57 by the Malians in the final played at the Makalekale indoor sports hall.
