D’Tigers head coach Alex Nwora has attributed his side’s massive win against Uganda in Friday’s 2019 FIBA World Cup African qualifiers in Lagos to his squads strength in depth, reports Completesportsnigeria.com.
Nigeria defeated Uganda 109-66 in their opening game with captain Ike Diogu leading the way with 24 points, seven rebounds and three assists.
Obi Emegano also added 15 points while debutants Tosin Mehinti and Jordan Nwora, the coach’s son, bagged 12 points each.
“I had eight debutants on my team and was switching based on what Uganda had on the floor. I tried to give everyone a run and I am glad they all did well in the end despite a shaky start,” Nwora said after the game.
Meanwhile Uganda’s head coach George Dean admitted that the D’Tigers deserved their win despite their efforts.
“Our guys battled. We didnt lose our game because we didn’t fight. Nigeria was the better team,” Dean said after the game.
D’Tigers will face Rwanda in their next game today (Saturday) who beat Mali 82-72 in their opening game on Friday.
