Nigeria’s senior national men’s basketball team, D’Tigers are looking to reactivate their intention to win their first FIBA-Africa Basketball Championship when they take on Mozambique on Wednesday. in the round of 16th of the championship holding in Tunisia, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.
The Nigerians who ended the first round of the tournament with two wins and a defeat, will be out to redeem their pride in the tournament after being beaten by host country Tunisia 67-59 in their last group game on Sunday.
The team captained by Olumide Oyedeji has never won the championship before, and with the calibre of players in the squad now, the trophy may not be too far away from the Nigerian team. They need a lot more inspiration to play in the final, and beating Mozambique on Wednesday should be a top priority to the players.
Former NBA star, Olumide Oyedeji who spoke with Completesportsnigeria.com from Tunisia on Tuesday said the team needed to come together, play as a unit and be focused all through the game.
“We were a bit relaxed in the game against Tunisia, but we need to do more and make sure we play more as a team and put in more energy because Mozambique are not easy. I know them very well, and for a team like that, we need to come all out against them,” Oyedeji told Completesportsnigeria.com.
“The defeat we suffered against Tunisia was painful, but we have put that behind us and moving forward. We are going to make sure that we win the match so that we can progress in the tournament.
While Nigeria won two games in the first round, Mozambique lost two games and managed to win one.
Winner of Wednesday’s Round of 16 game will make it through to the quarter-final stage, while the loser will have to settle down for classification.
