D’Tigress of Nigeria’s top scorer against Egypt in Sunday’s preliminary game of the ongoing 2017 FIBA African Women’s Championship in Mali, Evelyn Akhotor, is excited to lead Nigeria as the first country to qualify for the quarter-final stage of the tournament, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.
Akhotor who recorded 24 points in the 106-72 demolition of the Egyptians said she was happy to run the floor against their opponents in the game.
“We have a young team that can run the floor on both defence and offense, so doing that is a plus for us,” Akhotor told FIBA.com.
“I just came out to play and try to get better every other day. I think me getting used to the plays and the court and getting the trust for my teammates really helped me.”
Nigeria are firmly on top of AfroBasket for Women Group B with six points but still have to play against Guinea and reigning champions Senegal.
Jennifer Atonye Nyingifa posted another double double with 15 rebounds and 12 points while Ezinne Kalu and Sarah Ogoke added 18 and 13 points in that order.
