Du Plessis Ready For Tough Aussie Challenge

South Africa captain Faf du Plessis is expecting a full-blooded contest against Australia and a hostile reception from fans next month. The Proteas are set to face the Aussies for the first time since the infamous Test series earlier this year which saw Steve Smith, David Warner and Cameron Bancroft receive bans for their part in the match-fixing scandal.

That series was full of needle both on and off the pitch but Baggy Greens skipper Tim Paine has tried to usher in a new era of respect among his players.

The wicket-keeper expects his men to play hard but fair and that is exactly what Du Plessis feels will happen when battle lines are drawn for the first of three ODIs on November 4.

“Australia is our favourite team to play against, all the stuff that comes with playing them, on and off the field, I love that and I feel that brings the best out of us as a team,” the 34-year-old told reporters on Tuesday.

“It will be nice and hostile. We are not expecting anything less. Zunaid our security officer has been working hard in the gym.

“We expect them to try and unsettle us as a team when it comes to the media space, obviously with myself being at the forefront of it, but we see it as part and parcel of touring Australia.”
