Former Kaduna United coach Ben Duamlong has commended the Nigeria Football Federation and the Akwa Ibom State government for the upcoming international friendly in March 2015 between the Super Eagles of Nigeria and 2014 World Cup hosts, Brazil, reports Completesportsnigeria.com
The newly inaugurated Akwa Ibom International Stadium, Uyo, will host the high profile game next year and it has received a big thumbs up from the veteran coach.
“The friendly will be a big one. One of the games that even the neutrals will enjoy watching.
“The Akwa Ibom State government have done well, so also is the Nigeria Football Federation who have really done well as regards the quality of friendlies Nigerian teams have played.
“The past NFF board did well there and we look forward to similar efforts from the Amaju Pinnick-led body.
Duamloung however hopes Stephen Keshi’s team will qualify for the 2015 African Cup of Nations in Morocco where they hope to defend their AFCON title in the midst of a difficult campaign in the qualifying games.
“Hopefully, the Eagles will make it to the Nations Cup. It will be nice to see the Eagles take on such a world class team after the Nations Cup.
“The confidence level will be high in such a psituation,” Duamlong said.
Speaking to Completesportsnigeria.com on the high-profile players who did not make Keshi’s team for the AFCON qualifiers against Congo and South Africa, Duamlong has a soothing word for them.
“Keshi has picked his team for those games but has repeatedly stated that the likes of Brown Ideye, Martins, Obasi are all in his plans; so they could play in a similar friendly game or two before the Nations Cup. The players should just continue working hard at their clubs,” Duamloung concluded.
