Dunne ruled out until the new year

Burnley defender Jimmy Dunne – currently on loan at Heart of Midlothian – has been ruled out for six weeks with an ankle injury. The 21-year-old Irishman missed Hearts’ Scottish Premiership clash with Rangers on Sunday after suffering an injury in training.

And Jambos boss Craig Levein later revealed that, after undergoing a scan on his ankle, the centre-back will be out until next year.

He told BBC Radio Scotland: “We had him (Jimmy Dunne) scanned and unfortunately it looks like he is out for six weeks or so. “It’s a training injury and it’s one of those things. It’s ankle ligaments.

“I was looking forward to getting Christophe (Berra) back to pair him alongside Jimmy (Dunne) at some point but obviously that’s not going to happen.”

Levein, who last month revealed he had agreed a deal in principle with Burnley to extend Dunne’s spell in Scotland, has suffered a number of key injuries this term
He added: “But yeah, that’s just the way it is.”
