Nigeria's Olanrewaju Durodola, who is the World Boxing Council (WBC) cruiserweight silver champion and the number one contender to the WBC cruiserweight title, will take on Russia's Grigory Drozd who is the champion.
To become the number one contender for the WBC cruiserweight title, Durola defeated Dmitry Kudryashov of Russia via a second round technical knockout on Wednesday 4th November.
Durodola, who was recently promoted to the rank of Inspector by Police IGP Solomon Aranse, tells completesportsnigeria.com he is confident of emerging victorious against Drozd.
"Grogory Drozd is a very strong boxer but I know I am stronger than him. All I need to do is just remain focused, train hard and not sound too cocky because in boxing, anything can happen.
"For now, we are yet to start training, but hopefully, we will start next week. Also, we will be studying Grigory Drozd's fights because he is the champion. So like I said, we will start preparation next week, the venue is not yet known, we are hearing it might happen in Jamaica we don't know yet," Durodola states during an exclusive chat with completesportsnigeria.com.
The first boxer to win the World Boxing Council cruiserweight silver belt, emulating Samuel Peter who was the first to win it in the heavyweight category, Durodola thanks the IGP, Aranse, for his promotion, promising to use it as motivation to win.
"I won the American Continental championship and the EFC championship. I was rated number four in the world. I came back to Nigeria and decided to visit the I.G. who surprised me by promoting me from constable to inspector. I was so impressed with the promotion that I have promised myself and the I.G.P. that I am going to win the fight."
Durodola also expressesgratitude to God for bringing him this far, hoping that he will finally achieve his target of becoming a world champi
"To God be the glory because it has not been easy for me but with hard work and dedication, I have been able to get to where I am today. I have a dream of becoming a world champion and I am pushing very hard, hoping that God help me to achieve my dream because without him, I wouldn't be where I am today.
"Nobody gave me the chance to beat Dmitry because they believe I am too old, he is 30 years old, I am 35 years old, so they felt they could take advantage of the age difference between us. And I believe if they had known that I will win the fight, they wouldn't have gone ahead with the fight," Durodola states.
