Sean Dyche was pleased with the way his makeshift Burnley side battled to a 0-0 Europa League first leg draw at Istanbul Basaksehir.
The Clarets chief had to make several changes to his ranks for the third qualifying round first leg tie in Turkey without injured trio Steven Defour, Robbie Brady and Tom Heaton, while Chris Wood missed out because of an allergic reaction to an insect bite.
Joe Hart made his debut in the absence of Anders Lindegaard, who has aggravated a thigh problem, while Aaron Lennon and Johann Berg Gudmundsson featured despite suffering with a tight hamstring and stomach bug respectively.
Despite the upheaval to his team plans, Dyche watched as Burnley picked up a draw to give them hope of winning next Thursday’s second leg at Turf Moor to secure a place in the next round, where they will face Olympiakos.
He said: “I think overall, one of the more pleasing things is we had to bolt together a team and come somewhere like this where we’ve never been before and find a way of getting a result. And I think they’ve done that well overall.
“We knew they were a very technical side, when you look at the players they’ve got and where they’ve played in their careers, so we knew our shape would have to be good, we knew we’d have to work very hard, which we did, and then, when you look at some of the tactical performances, the two centre halves were very strong again.
“Joe (Hart) came in, don’t forget he’s been thrown into the deep end out of the blue, Jon Walters worked ever so hard on the right, which isn’t natural for him to do all the time, and when you look at the respect of the players for themselves and the team, to put on a performance like that.
“You know, it’s tough coming to a place like this, it’s new to these lads, and we’ve come with 17 players – that’s our lot.
“So I’m really pleased, certainly with the shape and attitude, on a heavy, leg-sapping, old-fashioned pitch.”Fastest Paying Betting Site in Nigeria: Grab your 140% First Time Deposit Bonus Now — www.Sportybet.Com Copyright © 2021 Completesports.com All rights reserved.
