Eagles Off To Brazil

The Super Eagles will depart the United States of America just about half and hour before noon today and arrive in Brazil for the World Cup tonight.

According to the team’s travel itinerary on FIFA website as well as the one made available to Complete Sports by the Nigeria Football Federation, the team will fly from the Miami International Airport at 11.25am Nigerian time aboard an American Airline and are scheduled to land at the Guarulhos International Airport in Sao Paolo at 8.40pm.

The Nigerian contingent will arrive in Sao Paolo just an hour after the arrival of the Belgium team from Dakar, Senegal.

Most of the 32 participating teams are already in Brazil for the World Cup, which kicks off on Thursday. Only Ghana, South Korea and Portugal are yet to arrive; all of them are due in on Wednesday.

The Eagles first game in Brazil is against Iran in Curitiba on Monday.

Their second match is against Bosnia on 21 June before they face Group F favourites Argentina on 21 June in Porto Alegri.

Meanwhile team’s forward Ahmed Musa has told AfricanFootball.com it is good for the team that they have already been written off even before they have set foot in Brazil.

The Super Eagles have struggled in their warm-up friendlies, drawing with Scotland and Greece before losing to USA.

“I am happy that people are not talking about us as favourites in our group, it is a good omen for the team,” he was quoted as saying.

“But we are professionals who know what it means and takes to play in the World Cup.

“I am therefore assuring Nigerians that we are equal to the task and will represent Nigerians and Africans well in Brazil. Nigerians will see the real Super Eagles when World Cup starts.”

The CSKA Moscow ace also called for support from Nigerians.

“We are here to represent the nation so we expect Nigerians to be behind us and support us as we won’t let them down,” he enjoined.

Argentina and Bosnia-Herzegovina are the favourites to emerge from Group F of the World Cup with Nigeria and Iran expected to make up the numbers.
