Eagles, Oliseh Blame CHAN Exit On Owed Allowances, Bonuses

By David Meshioye and Adeboye Amosu in Kigali:

Nigeria shocking exit from Africa Nations Championship in Rwanda has been attributed to lack of motivation and the Nigeria Football Federation’s failure to offset a backlog of players’ camp allowances and bonuses, Completesportsnigeria.com can exclusively report.
Some of the players who pleaded anonymity revealed to Completesportsnigeria.com that the players did not feel motivated prior to their final group match against the Syli Stars of Guinea which in turn may ahave contributed to their ouster from the competition.
The players revealed that coach Sunday Oliseh did his best to motivate them after their first and second games, but was helpless as the NFF and sports ministry failed to offset their allowances and bonuses.
“We gave our best. It is just a pity that our best was enough when it mattered most,” one of the players lamented to Completesportsnigeria.com.
“Nigerians should forgive us and should not blame the players for the exit because I can tell you that we were never motivated before that match,” another one added.
“They promised to offset our allowances and bonuses after our first game but nothing was done till our second game was played.
“There was no single motivation from the FA and sports ministry before our game against Guinea. Of course we are human too.
“We did not plan this exit but we lacked the right motivation before the Guinea game.”

Also, Super Eagles coach Sunday Oliseh insisted that his players played under harsh conditions which left them with little or no motivation for their last group match against the Syli Stars of Guinea.
Speaking after Nigeria lost 1-0 to Guinea at the Muganda Stadium in Ribavu, Oliseh maintained that he did his best to motivate his players following non-payment of their camp allowances and winning bonuses all to no avail.
According to him, it took him hours talking to the players on the need to keep fighting until their mission was accomplished but it dawned on him that the players did not enjoy the right motivation that other teams are enjoying in the Africa Nations Championship.
“ I don’t why players should be playing under such difficult conditions,” Oliseh said.
“They all have families to cater for and we are not financially motivated, things were better in other camps and they see it and they are human too.”
