–Undergoes Scan in Monaco
Super Eagles defender Elderson Echiejile has played down fears of a major injury by claiming he could return from a hip strain against Zenit St Petersburg in next Tuesday’s UEFA Champions League clash.
The Nigerian international who was forced off five minutes from stoppage time during Monaco’s 2-0 win over Lens on Tuesday told Complete Sports that there was nothing to be scared about his hip injury as the result of the scan will be revealed (today) on Thursday.
“It’s nothing serious,” he replied when Complete Sports asked for how long he would be ruled out.
“I called on the bench to be replaced as a precautionary measure when I felt a slight pain on my hip.
“I hope to return soon before our Champions League game against Zenit.”
With the duo of Layvin Kurzawa and Geoffrey Kondogbia already ruled out with injury, the last thing coach Leonardo Jardim needs is to be without the player who was impressive as the French side ended their run of four league games without a win by overcoming struggling Lens 2-0 at the Stade Louis II.
Echiejile has however scored once in seven Ligue 1 games for Monaco who now sit eight on the log.
