Echiejile Captains Monaco In Luzern Defeat, Enyeama Makes Pre-Season Bow

Super Eagles defender Elderson Echiejile captained Monaco for the the third time in pre-season on Tuesday in their 2-1 loss to Swiss side Luzern, Completesportsnigeria.com can report.

It was their first defeat in pre-season.

With Ramadel Falcao, Andrea Raggi, Fabinho, Valère Germain and Nabil Dirar all rested for the game, Luzern took the lead in the 37th minute of the friendly through Markus Neumayr who curled in a stunning free-kick from the edge of the box.

But Adama Traore restored parity two minutes later. The Malian midfielder fired in a 35-yard stunner before Jahmir Hyka's second half goal sealed the win in the 50th minute.

In the 57th minute of the encounter, Nigerian international Echiejile came close in drawing level for his side after his header crashed off the upright.

Monaco will face Portuguese side Sporting Lisbon on Wednesday evening.

At the Ferdi Petit stadium, former Super Eagles goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama made his first appearance for Lille in pre-season as they were held to a goalless draw by Red Star Belgrade.

The 33-year-old was a second half substitute for Lille in the encounter and was called to action in the 67th minute when he parried Bouazza's goal bound shot.
