Elderson Echiejile has been handed the No.5 shirt by Standard Liege ahead of his debut on Sunday at the Maurice Dufrasne Stadium, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.
After losing his place to Djibril Sidibe who arrived from Lille, the Nigerian international will be hoping his luck changes in Belgium after inheriting the shirt vacated by Turkish right-back Alpaslan Ozturk.
"Hopefully, I will do far better than I have ever done on my debut for previous clubs on Sunday in the No.5 jersey," Echiejile told Completesportsnigeria.com.
The 28-year-old who is on a season-long loan deal from Monaco also believes Standard Liege can pick their second win of the season after failing to win in their last three games.
"The season is still in its early stages and I hope we can start winning more games than we have so far," he added.
Echiejile joined Monaco in 2014, making 54 appearances and scoring two goals in three-and-a-half seasons.
Standard Liege are 11th on the Belgian log with six points from five games.
