AS Monaco defender Elderson Echiejile has admitted that his side’s 1-1 draw at Anderlecht in the Europa League Thursday, was an eye opener for the French side who laboured to earn a point from the game, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.
Echiejile started the clash but had to make way for Stephan El Shararawy in the 61st minute as Leonardo Jardim’s trailed the Belgian side, no thanks to a Guillaume Gillet’s 11th minute strike.
However Ivorian striker Lacina Traore came off the bench to head home the equaliser in the 85th minute for Monaco's first point in the competition.
“Kept it late against #Anderlecht tonight. First group game always an eye opener #EuropaLeague #AllezMonaco,” he tweeted via his Twitter handle @EldersonEch.
The game was Echiejile's 12th appearance in the UEFA Europa League with Monaco who host Tottenham Hotspurs in their next fixture on the 1st of October while Anderlecht are away to Qarabag FK in the other fixture.
Echiejile is also expected to make his fourth Ligue 1 start against Lorient on Sunday.
His compatriot, Imo Ezekiel, was on for Anderlecht in the last three minutes for his Europa League debut. The Al Arabi loanee replaced Youri Tielemans in the 87th minute of the draw. He is yet to score since joining the club.
