Following their 1-0 win over Bayer Leverkusen in their opening fixture of the UEFA Champions League, AS Monaco and Nigeria left back Elderson Echiejile has expressed excitement at the outcome of the game.
Echiejile was not listed for the encounter played at the Stade Louis II Stadium, but that didn’t stop him from celebrating and congratulating his teammates for the victory, which gives them three points.
“What a way to begin the #UefaChampionsLeague. Well done boys. Great result. #AllerMonaco,” he tweeted.
But Monaco manager, Leonardo Jardim said of the win: “It was important to win for various reasons– to give confidence to my players, to show that our work can be rewarded and that we are progressing.
“Our physical conditioning is at a high level and we showed it in the second half. We were superior to our opponents,” he told uefa.com.
Echiejile joined the principality club from Portuguese side, Braga last January but has only featured sparingly since.
He featured severally in the Champions League with Braga, as well as the Europa League and was expected to go straight into the Monaco team but in fairness, he’s also had his fair share of injuries which probably have kept him out of games.
