Echiejile Makes Monaco Return As Oboabona, Akpala Suffer Defeats

Super Eagles left-back Elderson Echiejile made his long awaited return to action from injury on Sunday for AS Monaco who drew 1-1 away to Saint-Etienne in the French Ligue 1.


Echiejile last featured for AS Monaco in December 2015, against Troyes.

Mustapha Sall gave Saint-Etienne the lead in the 57th minute but Vagner Love restored parity for AS Monaco with five minutes remaining.


In the English Premier League, Kelechi Iheanacho was on target for Manchester City but it was not enough as they lost 2-1 to visiting Tottenham Hotspur.

Harry Kane had given Spurs the lead from the penalty spot before Iheanacho made it 1-1.

But with seven minutes left, Christian Eriksen secured the win for the North London side.

Joel Obi was an unused substitute for Torino in their 3-1 Serie A away win against Palermo also on Sunday.

Alberto Gilardino had given Palermo the lead in the second minute, but goals from Ciro Immobile (two) and Giancarlo Gonzalez sealed the win for Torino.

In La Liga, Success Isaac was on parade for Granada but they lost 3-0 away to Real Sociedad.

While Isaac saw 90 minutes of action, his Nigerian team-mate Uche Agbo was not included in the squad.

Super Eagles defender Godfrey Oboabona made an appearance in Rizespor’s 2-1 away defeat to Sivasspor.

Oboabona was in action for 90 minutes in the Turkish league clash.

Former Flying Eagles star Olanrewaju Kayode and his side Austria Wien were at the receiving end of a 3-0 home loss to Rapid Wien.

Kayode played from start to finish for Austria Wien in the defeat.

In the Belgian league, Joseph Akpala played from the start befored being pulled off for Gohi Bi Cyriac as Oostende lost 2-0 at home to Club Brugge.

His Nigerian team-mate Saviour Godwin did not even make the bench for Oostende.

In the Portuguese league, Super Eagles right-back, Abdullahi Shehu and his side Uniao da Madeira lost 3-0 at Arouca.

Shehu, who has always been a regular for Uniao da Madiera, saw 90 minutes of football.

One-cap Super Eagles midfielder Anderson Esiti, played for Estoril who beat Tondela 2-1.

Esiti was introduced in the 85th minute for Leo Bonatini.

And still in Portugal, Reuben Gabriel filed out for Boavista who were held 0-0 at home against Academica de Coimbra.

While Gabriel played for 90 minutes, Uche Nwofor was benched throughout the game and Michael Uchebo was not in the squad.
