Nigeria defender confident French side can repeat Emirates Cup victory over Gunners
AS Monaco defender Elderson Echiejile is delighted his team drew Arsenal in the round of 16 of the UEFA Champions League.
Echiejile who missed Monaco’s last group win against Zenit St Petersburg believes the French side stand a chance of advancing to the next round with the second leg billed to hold in France at the Stade Louis II stadium.
“We know what’s it is like to play them because we already faced them in the Emirates Cup and we beat them, so I pray we do it again,” he told Complete Sports on Monday, moments after the draw was announced.
“We won’t take anything for granted, we have earned the right to be here in the next round and we will show it.”
Arsenal will be confident given their previous results against sides from Ligue 1.
Playing 12 against French opposition, Arsenal have only lost two but the former SC Braga defender is optimistic that Monaco who clinched top spot in Group C stand a chance of progressing.
“We have never met in the Champions League but I hope we get it right when we play them in London.”
The first legs of all the ties will be played on Feb 17/18 and Feb 24/25 with their second legs being played on March 10/11 and March 17/18.
