–Eagles star lands in Russia with Monaco for UCL clash
By Johnny Edward:
AS Monaco defender Elderson Echiejile has admitted that the Super Eagles must win all their remaining four games in the African Nations Cup qualifiers to stand a chance of defending their crown in next year’s AFCON in Morocco.
The Nigeria international who was part of Monaco’s 20-man squad that arrived Moscow yesterday for tomorrow’s Champions League clash against Zenit St. Petersburg believes with sheer desire and hunger, the Eagles will bounce back to winning ways.
“We need to win every game from now on in the AFCON qualifier,” said Echiejile in a chat with Complete Sports.
“Our result isn’t the worst in the world but we need to start winning games fast.” he added.
“We should show that we are resilient, that we are still fighting for every game but unfortunately we lost at home to Congo so we have to really get our heads down and start winning quickly in Sudan.”
Echiejile who is expected to start in defence for Monaco in Wednesday’s Champions League game tipped his side to win in Russia despite their shaky start in the Ligue 1.
“We know what we want from the game and I believe we will maintain our good start in the competition,” he said.
The Ligue 1 outfit returned to the continental competition after eight years absence, during which they were also relegated to the second tier of French football.
Monaco began their UCL campaign with a 1-0 win over Bayer Leverkusen a fort night ago.
