Super Eagles stars Elderson Echiejle, Nnamdi Oduamadi and Michael Babatunde have all told Complete Sports that qualification for AFCON 2017 in Gabon should not be taken with levity despite being drawn with teams like Chad and Tanzania.

“We stand a good chance of qualifying but we must learn from our mistakes in the past and win all our homes games with that it easy to get 15 points from a possible 18 in a group that has Egypt,” the AS Monaco defender stated.

Latina winger Oduamadi also added that the Eagles first two games against Chad and Tanzania are crucial to qualification.

“Our games against Chad and Tanzania will determine our fate. We must win those fixtures to qualify.”

Volyn midfielder Michael Babatunde also believes the team’s approach and preparation will be crucial.

“We have to prepare well for those fixtures because in June most leagues will be over and our approach will determine how far we go,”

The duo of Efe Ambrose and Odion Ighalo also told it will not be an easy ride to qualify.

“Well it is a good group for us, but at the same time it is going to be a difficult task,” Ambrose said.

“Every team wants to qualify and they will put in their best, so we have to be ready for that. But we will go through.”

Watford striker Odion Ighalo, who made his full international debut against Uganda last month, told Nigeria cannot afford to take any of the group rivals lightly.

“No team is easy to face in Africa, they will all be tough. We must take all our opponents seriously, that way, we will go past them,” warned Ighalo.

Nigeria begin their campaign for Gabon 2017 at home against Chad on June 13.
