Elderson Echiejile played the last half hour as Monaco forced Valencia to a 2-2 draw in the opening game of this year’s Emirates Cup in London.
Nigeria international Elderson came on as a 61st minute replacement for left back rival Layvin Kurzawa.
He held his own in defence and even ventured upfront several times as Monaco dominated the second half.
He was also a late substitute for the France U21 defender when Monaco defeated Italian Serie A side Parma in another pre-season game earlier this week.
Kurzawa was preferred to the more experienced Nigeria star by former coach Claudio Ranieri.
