Standard Liege defender Elderson Echiejile is optimistic there is a lot more to come from the Super Eagles after their hard fought 1-0 win over the Taifa Stars of Tanzania in Saturday’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in Uyo, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.
Kelechi Iheanacho’s thunderous strike from the edge of the box ensured the Super Eagles finished their AFCON campaign on winning note, although they failed to qualify for Gabon 2017.
Echiejile is also confident of good results ahead with the new mentality new coach Gernot Rohr has brought to the squad.
“He’s (Rohr) kept everything so simple with all of us,” Echiejile told Completesportsnigeria.com.
“Now we can look forward with big hope that we can achieve the unthinkable in our World Cup group.”
Nigeria will take on Zambia, Algeria and Cameroun in Group B of African qualifying for the sole World Cup ticket.
Echiejile who joins up with his new teammates in Liege later this week also thanked Uyo fans for their relentless support.
“The Uyo fans were great. Thanks for your support. Late, but it’s better late than never.”
