Eguaveon: Super Eagles Must Fight Hard To Pick Second Round Ticket

By Adeboye Amosu:

Former Super Eagles defender Austine Eguaveon has challenged the team to give their all in their remaining two group games at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, Completesportsnigeria. com reports.

The Super Eagles started their campaign on a sour note going down to a 2-0 defeat against Croatia at the Kaliningrad Stadium on Saturday.

Gernot Rohr’s men will face debutants Iceland and two-winners Argentina in their last two group games.

They will need to win the two games to have any hope of making it to the second round and Eguaveon has stated that it is a task they must strive to achieve to avoid  exiting the competition early.

“The Croatia game is in the past, the most important now is the remaining two games against Iceland and Argentina,” Eguaveon who played at two World Cups for Nigeria told CSN.

“Now, they are condemned to win the  remaining two games.  It is a difficult task but not unachievable.

“They have to give their all to make sure they proceed to the next round.”

  • TBH ,the exact group of players, the team with the formation against Argentina would have done better last night, but the coach is slow not flexible at all in reacting to situations, how can you live Mikel and Shehu on the pitch and play iwobi out of position when they are all ineffective, he brought in Simy 3mins when he saw Ighalo is struggling, he then sub Ighalo for Iheanacho, when you are 2 goals down, sombdy should tell Rohr ,he should have possibly all his strikers on the pitch when he is losing, this is just so annoyin. Shehu Abdullahi is not better than Ebuehi, Shehu was the weak link yersterday…

  • why did they not invite Rabiu Ibrahim. He would have played better than Mikel

  • Genart rohr killed the game yesterday, I have always questioned his technical abilities before now, using shehu abdulahi that was a suspect all through the friendly matches was a red flag. He left ighalo that we all know is not a potent striker going by his records.going forward, I cannot see this team making it out of that group, not because d boys cannot play but due to that fact that we have an incompetent coach. Very confused coach that doesn’t know how to change a game when things are going wrong. He will still play ighalo next match and start musa as a top 9.mark my words. Iwobi will continue to play on the flank, Mikel will still be our number 10 against Iceland. so tell me, how can we score a goal in our next match

A lot of people share your thoughts. Mikel and Ighalo play in China and I can see they are parley with the coach to get their wishes met. Ighalo doesn’t have a good record with the national team. He was in the U20 that failed in Egypt in 2009. Remember the coach kept saying “we are waiting for out top players…Ighalo & Mikel”?
Also, Mikel may be using his big influence against the team. I don’t think he will EVER allow anyone to play or outshine him as a #10.

I can’t understand why Gernot Rohr is so stubborn and adamant…our best formation is 3-5-2 and yet he refused to play it..Mikel is too slow and static..Iwobi should be our no.10 and Ighalo should be dropped… Ihenancho should start
