Former Nigeria international Austin Eguavoen has called on handlers of the Super Eagles to give rave of the moment Daniel Akpeyi more playing time in the team.
Akpeyi was in scintillating form for the Eagles against South Africa in Sunday’s international friendly match in Nelspruit which ended 1-1.
The Warri Wolves shot stopper made series of saves and even capped his display with a second half penalty save.
Speaking with Complete Sports, Eguavoen who once coached the Eagles tasked Akpeyi to emulate Vincent Enyeama in order for him to go far in his career.
“He did well in the match (against South Africa) but he needs more games to gain full confidence in the team. Tougher games will give him the confidence he needs to stand in front of any striker and perform wonders.
“Enyeama is a great goalkeeper today in Eagles because he has been very consistent in the team and through that, he got the exposure that gave him the confidence to be number one in Nigeria today.”
Akpeyi was picked for the South Africa game after Enyeama pulled out due to injury.
