Eguma: We Really Missed Eduok

–Dolphins manager rues exit striker during Abuja tourney

Dolphins manager Stanley Eguma has confessed that his side’s dire run at the NPFL pre-season tournament is primarily down to the absence of winger, Emem Eduok.

Eduok has since moved to Tunisia to team up with two-time African club champions, Esperance.

The Port Harcourt club have been mediocre at the ongoing Glo Premier League pre-season tournament in Abuja where they have lost all four of their matches to the chagrin of the faithful.

Eguma says the absence of Eduok coupled with “other factors” have been responsible for the club’s slow start to the season.

“Of course we miss Emem. He was our best player last season but we must rise up to the occasion from now.

“Apart from his (Eduok’s) absence, there are other factors that have slowed us down,” Eguma told supersport.com.

Dolphins will open their 2015 Caf Confederation Cup campaign on the weekend ofFebruary 13-15 and Eguma insists his charges must improve rapidly.

“We cannot continue to play like this. I have spoken to the players about it to make them understand that to be successful on the continent; they need to raise their game.

“We have done our homework on our (preliminary round) opponents (Leones Vegetarianos) and we are sure that we will get a positive result,” he said.

Dolphins reached the final of the Caf Confederation Cup at their maiden attempt in 2005.

The club went on to make two more appearances in the competition in 2007 and 2008 where they reached the group stage and second round respectively.
