Egypt May Hamper Nigeria Versus South Africa Friendly

The proposed friendly international between the Super Eagles of Nigeria and South Africa’s Bafana Bafana on March 29 may be dead in the waters before it sees the light of day.

The South African Football Association (SAFA) according to SuperSport.com, has reportedly contacted the The Egyptian Football Association (EFA) about the possibility of meeting each other in a friendly international this month.

The Pharaohs have received a total of three offers, with Morocco and Colombia also keen to meet the North Africans in March.

“We received three offers to play friendly matches. The offers are from Morocco, South Africa and Colombia. We will talk with the new technical staff and they will decide about that,” EFA spokesman Mahmoud Al Shami said.

“The new head coach [Hector Cuper] has not arrived in Egypt yet, as he is expected to come and meet with the entire technical staff then draw up his plan.”

Alongside Nigeria, countries like Australia, Uruguay, and Argentina have all been tipped to play Bafana Bafana in a friendly this month.

The Super Eagles were earlier scheduled to play Bolivia on March 26 at the ultra-modern Akwa Ibom International Stadium in Uyo and then fly out to London to take on the AFCON 2015 finalists in London on March 29.

But FIFA insisted at the weekend that such cross-continental friendlies within a space of three days clearly violate its rules. It is in FIFA’s laws that no country should play two games across two continents in three days.

Completesportsnigeria.com gathers that the new Egyptian coach, Cuper, who introduced former Super Eagles striker, Obafemi Martins, to Inter Milan’s first team squad in the early 2000’s has a mandate to qualify the Pharaohs to the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia and is keen to get off to a good start in his new coaching job.
