Nigeria goalkeeper, Austin Ejide has applauded his compatriot, John Ogu’s performance in Hapoel Be’er Sheva’s 3-1 win at Hopel Petach Tiva, describing it as class act capable of helping the Israeli club back to European football next season.
“Ogu was wonderful in the game, even though he did not score but he was on for about 70 minutes and everyone was delighted with what they saw him put into the game”, the Super Eagles stand-in captain said.
“Our objective is to do well in the league to get the opportunity of returning to European football next year and I believe Ogu will play a big role in helping us achieve that ambition.”
Ejide was in between the sticks as Hapoel Be’er Sheva posted a commanding 3-1 performance against his former club, Hapoel Petach Tikva in the Match Day 2 of the Israeli top flight Saturday.
“It was an emotional moment for me, it my second return to the venue this term, the first being a Toto Cup game which we drew 1-1.
“So much has changed since I left them including the departure of the manager who was there when I came.
“But life goes on; we’re always aiming to go one higher. Our ambition is to win every single game and return to Europe.
“We have more experienced players now in our fold including the arrival of (John) Ogu.
“It’s still a long way up but we’ll take it one game at a time believing in God that we’ll real our ambition at the end of the day”, Ejide added.
