Out of favour Super Eagles goalkeeper, Austin Ejide has voiced his confidence in the senior national team, Super Eagles, to overcome Tanzania in next week’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in Dar es Salaam, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.
“No doubt, it will be a tough game in Tanzania because having lost their first game, the East Africans will want to make up for that and appease their home fans,” the Hapoel Be’er Sheva of Israel goaltender told Completesportsnigeria.com.
“But in all modesty, I’ve no confidence in the Super Eagles to come back home with a decent result.”
Ejide believes that despite home fans strongly standing behind their team to put their AFCON aspiration back on track, the home side will be under pressure which will count in Nigeria’s favour.
“No, there will be no pressure on the Super Eagles in the match, instead, it’s the home team that will be under pressure because they know they must win the game in order to nurse any hope of going to the Gabon 2017 AFCON.
“But this will help the Super Eagles a lot because we have more experienced players who play in top leagues across the globe,” Ejide said.
Ejide was not listed by new Super Eagles gaffer, Sunday Oliseh for the AFCON qualifier against Tanzania and the international friendly against Le Menas of Niger Republic on September 8 in Port Harcourt.
“Nigeria has a lot of quality players and anyone could be called upon at any given time for any game. That I’m not listed for the games does not make any difference as those picked will get the full support of every Nigerian to win.
“Victory for the team in Tanzania is victory for every Nigerian so we must give the team all the backing, whether one is invited or not,” Ejide told Completeportsnigeria.com.
Ejide, a former Gabros International FC, Nnewi (now Ifeanyiubah FC) goalkeeper had been linked with a transfer move to Turkey but when prodded on the prospect of such a move, he chose to keep mum.
