Former Super Eagles forward Efan Ekoku claims the team showed no urgency in the 2-0 defeat against Croatia in their Group D fixture at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Kaliningrad on Saturday, reports Completesportsnigeria. com.
Gernot Rohr’s men showed little desire to win the game and extended their win-less streak in their opening group game at the World Cup to four games.
An own goal by Oghenekaro Etebo and Luka Modric’s penalty gave Croatia the win.
“No shame in losing to Croatia. However, the lack of urgency is particularly worrying for a WC opening game. It was evident against England at Wembley and is becoming a reoccurring theme ,”Ekoku, a member of Super Eagles squad to the 1994 World Cup in United States of America wrote on his Twitter handle.
” Let’s put tactics aside for a minute! Fire in the belly can take you a long way, look at Iceland at the last Euros. Gernot Rohr has to inject fire into the squad…somehow .”
The Super Eagles will face Iceland in their next game on Friday at the Volgograd Stadium.
