Players of El-Kanemi Warriors of Maiduguri have vowed not to go back to the pitch unless their accumulated entitlements are settled.
The Glo Premier League side shocked domestic league watchers Sunday when they boycotted their match day 33 trip to Ifeanyiubah FC and were subsequently walked over.
Completesportsnigeria.com checks reveal that the bone of contention was the enhanced salary which the players are yet to collect since last season.
"Last season, we were paid only the old salary of N70,000 to some and N50,000 to some others," offered one of the aggrived players without wanting to be named.
"They told us they would pay the balance later but they did not.
"This season again, we've been collecting same old salaries and nobody is talking about the balance of last season's and the balance of the enhanced salary for this season.
"So if we are not paid with just five matches to end the season, when will they pay us the balance for the two seasons?
"Last season we went home at the end of the season without money and we foresee a repeat this time around, hence our collective decision to press home for our money."
Completesportsnigeria.com understands a top level meeting was scheduled for Monday at the club's camp in Maidugjri to resolve the logjam.
But the players are insisting they would not sit down with anybody on the issue except, perhaps, the governor of Borno State, Alhaji Shetima Kashim.
Completesportsnigeria.com recalls that organisers of the Nigerian top flight, League Management Company, LMC, had given the management of the club until October 27 to settle all outstanding contractual obligation to the players or risk six-points deduction.
Zana Mohammed, chairman of the club, said he was attending a burial ceremony when completesportsnigeria.com contacted him on his mobile
Later several calls to his phone were not responded to or returned .
But spokesman of the club, Anthony Obaseki, confirmed that the players were agitating for the payment of their 'enhanced' salary dating back to last season.
He also admitted there was a scheduled meeting aimed at persuading the players to step down their demand but that the players insisted they can only sit in a meeting or listen to any other official except the state governor.Fastest Paying Betting Site in Nigeria: Grab your 140% First Time Deposit Bonus Now — www.Sportybet.Com Copyright © 2021 Completesports.com All rights reserved.
