Banyana Banyana coach Desiree Ellis says their 1-0 win over the Super Falcons of Nigeria in Sunday’s Women’s Africa Cup of Nations Group B opener was down to a moment of brilliance from Thembi Kgatlana and a loss of concentration by the Nigerian team, reports Completesportsnigeria.com.
Kgatlana’s outstanding striker for the Banyana Banyana five minutes from time secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory for Ellis’s side.
“We played against a very good side and one moment of loss of concentration in the game decided the game,” Ellis stated during her post-match interview.
“I said at pre-match press conference that we needed to be phenomenal and execute the plan.
“Even though they had a lot of possession, they didn’t really fight us except only one moment. It took us a moment of brilliance to decide the match.
“We planned very well and executed it. We gave it all out there and we said the first game of the tournament is most important and it is even bigger playing Nigeria.
“The victory is not only for us but for the people back home.”
Banyana Banyana will hope to build on their impressive start against Equatorial Guinea on Wednesday in their next game while the Super Falcons will battle Zambia in the other Group B fixture.
Zambia currently lead Group B on three points but with superior goal difference to second placed South Africa’s who also have three points.
Nigeria are third while Equatorial Guinea occupies the bottom spot in group B.Fastest Paying Betting Site in Nigeria: Grab your 140% First Time Deposit Bonus Now — www.Sportybet.Com Copyright © 2021 Completesports.com All rights reserved.
