Enugu Rumbles As Top NPFL Clubs Vie  For Super-4 Tourney Title

By Adeboye Amosu in Enugu:

The Nnamdi Azikwe Stadium, Enugu will witness five  days of exciting football action starting from Wednesday as Nigeria Professional Football League champions, Enugu Rangers and three other clubs;  Rivers United, Wikki Tourists and FC IfeanyiUbah do battle in the pre-season Super-Four Tournament, reports Completesportsnigeria.com.

The four clubs battled hard for the title last season with Rangers having the upper hand at the end of the campaign.

They will be all out to make a big  statement in what is expected to be another exciting but gruelling 2016/2017 campaign by not only winning this competition but producing sublime performances.

Rangers, who were unbeaten at home  in the league last season (15 wins and three draws), will enjoy the full  support of their fans at 'The Cathedral' (Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium), a key factor in title conquest last season.

According to the Enugu Rangers'top striker, Bobby Clement, it will be a huge factor as they look to win the competition.

"It's a good thing that we are playing in front our fans and that will be a big advantage for us,"  the 19-year forward told Completesportsnigeria.com.

"We are expecting a tough competition, but with our fans right behind us, coming out tops in  the end is possible.

For Rivers United handler, Stanley Eguma, the Super Four competition offers him the chance to assess his side readiness for the new campaign.

"The Super Four tournament will help us test ourselves and ascertain the level of preparedness of the squad ahead of the commencement of the new season and the CAF Champions League," he stated.

"It will help us gauge the mentality of the players and ascertain how well they have assimilated our philosophy.

" The fact that the other teams will play on the continent will help us too as the level of the competition."

Wikki Tourists who finished in third position in the NPFL last season and Federation Cup winners, FC IfeanyiUbah will be Ied by new handlers, Mohammed Babaganaru and Keneichi Yatsuhachi.

They too will be keen to make an impact in the competition and lovers of the domestic game can look forward to an exciting time as the competition starts on Wednesday.

Akwa United won the competition last year.
