Enyeama Escapes Eagles Sacking, Set To Face DR Congo

—NFF, Players Intervene In Expulsion Drama

By Johnny Edward:

Super Eagles captain Vincent Enyeama could feature against DR Congo after narrowly escaping being kicked out of the team on Tuesday for arriving in camp 24 hours late.

Coach Sunday Oliseh has however played down the incident in the team’s Belgium camp involving himself and Enyeama, after the intervention of the players and Nigeria Football Federation officials.

The Lille keeper only arrived on Tuesday for the friendlies against DR Congo and Cameroon billed for Thursday and Sunday.

Enyeama was given some time off to bury his late mother on Saturday, but Oliseh was said to be unhappy about the keeper’s late arrival and orderd that he should leave the camp.

Enyeama was said to have been apologetic but Oliseh was adamant that the former Enyimba keeper had to leave.

Further reports said security men were called in to forcibly remove a pleading Enyeama.

Incidentally, Enyeama missed Oliseh’s first matches in charge – the Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Tanzania and the friendly against Niger, both in September – due to his mother’s unfortunate death.

“It’s not true that Enyeama has been sent away from the camp, what if on Thursday you see that he features in our friendly?” the former Ajax and Juventus midfielder told Completesportsnigeria.com, confirming a tweet on the Nigeria Football Federation handle which said that the mini-crisis had been resolved.

“Those are not big issues, as they are very petty. The problem we have is that we are struggling to achieve the motives of the friendlies arranged for these purposes.

“We are lacking six players at the moment as the Belgian Embassy has refused to grant visas to six players and we are trying to adjust to other plans.”

Meanwhile, a tweet on the official handle of The Official Twitter Page of The Nigeria Football Federation reads:

“It’s true that there was a little misunderstanding in the camp of @NGSuperEagles, but the matter has been resolved. Enyeama remains in camp.”

Complete Sports also gathered that several players and members of the Nigerian Football Federation intervened on behalf of the Lille keeper who is yet to feature for the Super Eagles under Oliseh.

it is a disgrace that a man wjo has just buried his mum is being forced to leave the camp. Then one wonders why Players decide to play for their adopted countries instead of Nigeria.

this is very hard to accept, after Enyeama buried his mother on saturday, reported to camp on tuesday, been ask to share room with others, captaincy been taken away from him and send out of the camp on same day, this is too much no matter what happen, oliseh should not have acted that way by sending Enyeama out of the camp, I remembered who we fright for oliseh during his playing days in 2002, Enyeama should prepare to end his playing time with the national after making his 102 or 103 caps, before what happen to oliseh in 2002 will happen to him.

what olisa did was very bad. No mata what, some one who still have the bad memorie of his dead mother with him,by the way why should olisa chose musa ahead of mikel.

  • No matter what oliseh supposed show some respect to Enyeama as a serving captain.

  • Enyeama is a cool and humble player he has worked for nigeria oliseh is just trying to exercise his powe has a coach and he will fail for loosing such a talented and best Goal keeper in nigeria ..When oliseh was in super eagle ask if he was discipline to his coach?.Super eagles will not go far with oliseh …for him to start having problem with players now ..he won’t go far
Enyeama you are my man face your international career….Super eagles go chop many goals from now on …Forget playing for naija

the new coach should have allowed Enyama to remain the captain untill they are done with the world cup.

Oliseh did not know that he just prepared his best. A coach that want to succeed respects senior players by building his team on them, but what he did show that he take the job but he don’t want to keep it. Even if he wanted to take arm band from Enyeama, that wasnt the right time. It’s not my pleasure to see naija lost but i will be happy to see him full.
