Arsenal’s shock Champions League defeat to Ligue 1 side Monaco on Wednesday has been used by Lille coach Rene Girard who is the club manager of Super Eagles captain Vincent Enyeama to claim the English Premier League is not good enough.
Arsene Wenger’s side suffered a 3-1 last-16 loss to the French club at the Emirates Stadium in midweek after Geoffrey Kondogbia, Dimitar Berbatov and Yannick Ferreira-Carrasco scored in the first-leg game.
Despite Wenger insisting the Gunners should not be ruled out of the Champions League tie just yet, Lille boss Girard has responded to claims France’s top-flight lacks quality in defiant fashion – by using Arsenal as an example to show the Premier League may not be as good as many think.
‘To those who say our league is s***, it [Monaco’s win over Arsenal] proves there’s perhaps s*** elsewhere as well,’ Girard said, as reported by English tabloid, The Metro.
Lille keeper Enyeama has attracted interests from EPL clubs like Arsenal, Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspurs.
