–League hotshot promises more goals
Reigning Glo Premier League top striker, Mfom Udoh opened his account of the season as Enyimba earned a hard fought 1-0 win over Bayelsa United.
It was Bayelsa United’s sixth defeat in previous seven visits to the People’s Elephant and it was Udoh’s 50th minute strike that secured all points for the two-time African champions.
Udoh set a scoring record last season when he finished the campaign with 23 goals, three more than second placed Emem Eduok of Dolphins.
After a scoreless first half, the Kadiri Ikhana charges turned on the heat on the visitors who survived last season’s drop following a match-day 38 2-1 win at Heartland.
But it took just five minutes for Udoh to break the deadlock and was quick to inform Complete Sports that having broken the drought, it will be goals all the way.
“This is our first win of the season and that underlines the importance of the goal and my happiness”, offers a delighted Udoh who restates he may not complete the season with the People’s Elephant.
“Bayelsa United came out strong against us, they have never won here and so came all out to do that today.
“I thank my teammates for staying together and fighting hard to ensure that we won the game”.
Udoh said his target is to help his team by scoring more goals as the campaign progresses.
“As a striker, my business is to get the goals to help my club and although it took two games before I could score my first goal of the season, I believe more goals will come with hard work and God’s grace”, Udoh added.
