Nigeria Professional Football League champions Enyimba beat Akwa United 2-1 in a matchday 33 fixture at the Yakubu Gowon Stadium, Port Harcourt on Saturday to keep their hopes of picking at least a continental ticket alive, reports Completesportsnigeria.com.
The auto accident involving members of the away side supporters club which claimed one life dominated talks ahead of the game but that didn't affect both sides' performance as they dished out an entertaining contest.
The hosts who won the reverse fixture 1-0 in Uyo went ahead in the ninth minute through Mfon Udoh who converted from the spot after
Stephen Chukwude was hacked down in the box by an Akwa defender.
The Promise Keepers rallied back and got the equaliser through Hassan Babangida a minute before the break.
Desperate to secure maximum points in the game, Enyimba coach Paul Aigbogun threw in Ikechukwu Ibenegbu and Ezekiel Bassey for Olufemi Oladapo and Daniel Etor in the second half.
The changes paid off as Ibenegbu grabbed the winner 10 minutes from time from a freekick.
Eight other games will come up in the NPFL on Sunday.
