…Pillars, Wolves Claim Away Draws

By Sab Osuji:

Enyimba of Aba cruised to the top of the Glo Premier League Sunday after a hard fought 2-1 win against Lobi Stars at the Aba Township Stadium.
The People’s Elephant are now two points clear of second placed Sunshine Stars who will on Monday trade tackles with FC Ifeanyiubah at Rojenny Stadium, Oba, near Onitsha.
The match in Oba was moved to Monday following heavy down pour that rendered the pitch unplayable. It was to be a double header afternoon with Heartland first taking on Shooting Stars but the Naze Millionaires clash with 3SC was called off 25 minutes after kick-off when the heavens opened up.
Enyimba took a 2-0 lead in the first period with both goals coming from Ifeanyi George and Ifeanyi Anaemena on 31 and 39 minutes respectively.
Lobi Stars turned the heat on the hosts and six-time champions but endured till the staoppage time when Tony Okpotu reduced the tally from the penalty spot after goalkeeper Femi Thomas was adjuged to have fouled a goal-bound Lobi Stars striker.
The table may be altered on Monday when the three rescheduled games, Heartland vs 3SC; Ifeanyiubah vs Sunshine Stars and Sharks vs Rangers games will be concluded.
Rangers were a goal up till the 75th minute when the referee stopped the game as a result of water-logged pitch. Bobby Clement handed Rangers the lead before the game was stopped.
In Oghara, Kano Pillars held Bayelsa United to a 1-1 draw with both goals coming in the first half. John Paul handed the hosts the lead after 26 minutes but Bala drew the visitors level four minutes later.
Kabiru Abdullahi and Benjamin Turba were the scorers as El-Kanemi Warriors turned back Kwara United with a 2-0 defeat.
Dolphins’ woes continued with Abia Warriors holding the Stanley Eguma charges to a 1-1 draw at Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium, Port Harcourt while Giwa forced Warri Wolves to a 1-1 draw at Rwang Pam Stadium, Jos.
Osadiaye Joseph scored for Wolves four minutes after kick off while Ocheme Edoh brought the home side back on level terms in the second period.
