Enyimba Vs Abia Derby Sets Tone For Day-16 Crackers

By  Adeboye Amosu:

The Abia derby between Enyimba and Abia Warriors will set the tone for what is expected to be another tantalizing weekend in the Nigeria Professional Football League as matchday-16 actions take centre stage across different centres in the country on Sunday.

Abia Warriors shocked their more illustrious hosts 1-0 at the Enyimba Sports Stadium last term, but a repeat of that giant-killing feat look unlikely this time around going by the current form of the six-time champions.

The Peoples Elephants are unbeaten in their last eight games and  don't look like a side ready to give up on that record, at least going  by their spirited display in Wednesday's road trip 3-2 win against Kwara United.

The Kadiri Ikhana side will have their eyes firmly placed on moving to the summit especially with leaders Sunshine facing a difficult away tie at Lobi Stars.

The Akure Gunners who  have struggled to pick points on their travels  must stand up to the test or be demoted from the top again.

3SC and Rangers, too sides who have enjoyed  resurgence under their new gaffers face tough tests away from home this weekend.

Shooting Stars face wounded Ifeanyiuba, who are without a win in their last two fixtures and desperate to maintain their five match unbeaten streak under Gbenga Ogunbote.

Rangers who have won their  last four games  will confront Akwa United at the Akwa Ibom International Stadium,  christened the nest of champions.

Champions Kano Pillars who are without a win in three games  have a chance to end that poor run when they entertain El-kanemi Warriors at the Sani Abacha Stadium.

High Flying Giwa FC of Jos will keep a date with Heartland at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium, Kaduna.

Tony Bulus men head into the game in good stead having picked five points in their last three games, two of which were on the road.

Sharks will play at the Sharks Stadium for the first time this season, hosting Nasarawa United.

Sharks' local rivals,  Dolphins also host Wikki Tourists at the Liberation Stadium, Port Harcourt.

Oghara Township Stadium  is the venue of the clash between Bayelsa United and Warri Wolves.
