Etebo: Poor Pitch Affected Eagles’ Showing Vs DR Congo, England Game Will Be Better

By Johnny Edward:
Super Eagles midfielder, Oghenekaro Etebo has blamed the team’s poor showing in Monday’s international friendly match with DR Congo at the Adokiye Amesiamaka Stadium Port Harcourt on the poor condition of the pitch, Completeportsnigeria.com reports.

The Super Eagles of Nigeria played out a 1-1 draw with DR Congo in the World Cup buildup game.

Bursaspor defender William Troost-Ekong scored in the 14th minute – his first international goal in 19th appearance for the three time African Champions.

Cedric Ngulubi’s strike from the spot pegged Nigeria back in the 78th minute after Ola Aina was adjudged to have fouled Issama Mpeko in the penalty area.

Etebo told CSN in a brief chat that he gave his best in a tough condition on matchday.

“It was a good game, but I must admit the poor turf made it difficult for us to play well, but I feel we did well to get a result to please our fans on the day,” Etebo stated.

“I think that we will be better organized than we were when we face England. That’s the game we are all looking forward to.”

Etebo had an impressive second half of the season with Las Palmas in the Spanish La Liga.

But truly I don’t see the reason why we took that game away from uyo to port Harcourt. The pitch was horrible and unkept. It affected the flow of game.

  • And you, Etebo, was so sub-par that day. Every free kick, every free chance you had was ballooned away. Little impact. You were only marginally better than Mikel Agu (who was totally invisible).

I really pray the scan on Simon comes positive tomorrow. You (if you make the 23), Iheanacho, Ogu (if he makes it too) will certainly be benched at Russia 2018. You’re good, but by the levels of players like Victor Moses, Moses Simon, Simy, Ebuehi, Shehu, Mikel and co; you’re still a learner.

  • What reason will you give when England defeat you?

  • Good luck to the Eagles against England on Saturday

Moses Simon is still included in the list and is going to undergo a scan in London his fate will be decided in London… Aina can still make it as Tyronne Ebuehi is currently suffering a knock as he was substituted in the Congo game due to injury… if he doesn’t return to full fitness on time then he’ll be dropped in favour of Aina

Either Joel Obi/Mikel Agu will be dropped..
Either Kenneth Omeruo/Chidozie Awaziem will be dropped… i fear for Awaziem because he hasn’t yet returned to full fitness…he might be dropped too
If Moses Simon can’t beat the race against time to return to full fitness he might not make as well!!

Stop spreading fake news. Ola Aina has not been dropped

  • Idowu and chigozie awaziem are just hiding there. I hope the coach is assessing them adequately… They have not been super previously when tested.
