Etebo: Super Eagles Will Soar Over Wembley Tonight

By James Agberebi:

Nigeria midfielder Oghenekaro Etebo has expressed confidence that the Super Eagles can overcome the Three Lions of England in today’s (Saturday) friendly at Wembley Stadium.

The Super Eagles will face England from 5.15pm this evening as part of their preparations towards this summer’s FIFA World Cup in Russia.

This is the third time both countries will be meeting with England pipping the Super Eagles 1-0 in 1994 in a friendly.

In 2002, both countries played a 0-0 draw in a group game at the 2002 FIFA World Cup in Korea/Japan.

Etebo who should be in action for the Eagles in Saturday’s friendly, wrote on his Twitter handle: “Tonight we will soar over Wembley.”

After the friendly against England, the Eagles will fly to Austria where they will take on Czech Republic.

England will continue their preparation for the World Cup with another friendly against Costa Rica on Thursday.

As usual, much pre-game talk, little football. England is leading 2 – 0 at the half and the score could have been worse for Nigeria. Again as I had predicted, poor set piece (corner) defending led to the first goal. Too many ball turnovers in Nigeria’s own half, because of poor passing and just weak control. The second could have been stopped by Uzoho. But wait … the Super Eagles will win the World Cup.

    • Kweli. Why are you rubbing it in. We just didn’t get some things right, hopefully, the coach will learnt from this and make adjustments, Ighalo is apparently old and getting tired to compete, So also Mikel, Hungry boys like Lokosa was sent home, while Simy was seated on reserve bench, instead of allowing him to blend and build confidence now. Anyway, the truth is we don’t have the English team quality. No double about that if Onazi, Obi and Mikel are our midfielders ….

Sorry, was rooting for Nigeria but could not understand what they were doing in the first half. But not getting some things right is what can cost a game. Also check the other posts here, their criticisms are even worse and understandably so. I hope they work on set piece taking (including corners) and defending and pressing further up the pitch so they can generate their own set piece plays. Remember how the S/E lost to Argentina in 2014?

Am so devastated these eagles lack organizational movement and it’s down to one guy name Onazi. I might sound pessimistic if this is the way we want to okay at the World Cup then we can only manage two draws and a loss and Nigeria will be out. Onazi has no business in that squad. Good luck
