–Ex-Chelsea striker wants to work with Wenger
Samuel Eto’O is holding out for a dramatic late swoop from Arsenal. The former Chelsea and Barcelona striker, 33, is on Liverpool’s list of targets. However, the Cameroon star is desperate to work with Emirates boss Arsene Wenger.
And Eto’o is hoping the Frenchman revives his interest from earlier in the summer — as he looks to build an attack with enough depth to go full tilt for a first Premier League title since 2004.
Olivier Giroud has stayed at the Emirates this summer, while Wenger spent £33m to secure Chile superstar Alexis Sanchez from Barcelona.
But adding Eto’o into the mix would provide vital added Champions League experience.
Arsenal target Benedikt Howedes, 26, is also making noises about a possible move to North London from Schalke.
The German, who who can play centre-back or left-back, was an ever-present in his country’s World Cup-winning side.
And he is keen to link up with international team-mates Per Mertesacker, Mesut Ozil and Lukas Podolski at Arsenal.
He said: “I’ve heard that big clubs are on the lookout for players who’ve won the World Cup.
“I’ve been at Schalke 13 years, I love the club but definitely want to go abroad and discover a new language and culture.”
