Euro Clubs Trail Keshi

Former Nigeria national team invitee John Fashanu has revealed that no fewer than three European clubs are on the trail of Super Eagles coach Stephen Keshi.

“I’ve just returned from England and I can tell you Keshi is highly respected out there in Europe,” former England and Wimbledon striker Fashanu told Complete Sports on Sunday.

“There are at least three European teams right now interested in Keshi, and if NFF fails to act fast by giving him a fresh contract for three or four years, Nigeria will lose him.”

Although Fashanu never got to play for the Super Eagles after being invited but not featured, he still has close contacts within the country’s football and served as a member of the Presidential Task Force set up to assist the national team ahead of the 2010 World Cup. Fashanu refused to disclose the identities of the teams plotting to snap the Big Boss but disclosed that the European clubs value Keshi as one of the best black coaches around with the capacity to deliver at the biggest stage.

“He’s seen as Nigeria’s best coach after Clemence Westerhof; players respect him well and he’s the right man to take Nigeria to the semi-final of the World Cup or even the final,” added Fashanu who claimed that South Africa did not dump Keshi in preference for Shakes Mashaba for the Bafana Bafana job as being speculated in the media.

“No, South Africa did not snub him, instead, it’s the other way round. There are bigger and better things in front for Keshi hence he ignored the South Africa job.”
