Manchester United forward Memphis Depay bagged a brace and Bayern Munich's Arjen Robben also scored as the Netherlands defeated Luxembourg 3-1 in Group A away from home in the 2018 European World Cup qualifiers on Sunday, Completesportsnigeria.com reports
Robben opened scoring for the Netherlands in the 36th minute, but Maxime Chanot equalised for Luxembourg on 44 minutes.
In the 58th minute Depay made it 2-1 before securing the win with an 84th minute goal.
The win moves the Netherlands to second in the Group A on seven points, behind leaders France who are on 10 points.
European champions, Portugal, beat Latvia 4-1 to maintain their second position on nine points and three points behind Group B leaders Switzerland.
A brace from star forward, Cristiano Ronaldo (28th, 85th minute) and a goal each from William Carvalho (70th minute) and Bruno Alves (90th minute)sealed the win for Portugal.
And in Group H, Belgium smashed Estonia 8-1 to maintain their strong hold in the group. Dries Mertens (16th, 64th, 68th minute) bagged a hat-trick, Romelu Lukaku (83rd, 88th minute) had a brace while Eden Hazard (25th minute), Yannick Carrasco (62nd minute) and Thomas Meunier (8th minute)each got on the score sheet.
Estonia only goal was scored by Henri Anier
The win takes Belgium's points to 12, placing them two points ahead of second place Greece who are on 10 points.
Other results in the European qualifiers include: Hungary defeating Andorra 4-0, Switzerland beating Faroe Island 2-0, Greece forcing Bosnia and Herzegovina playing 1-1, Bulgaria piping Belarus 1-0 and Cyprus seeing off Gibraltar 3-1.
