Feyenoord defeated Manchester United 1-0 on match day 1 of the UEFA Europa League Group A in Holland on Thursday.
The only goal of the game was scored by Tonny Vilhena with 11 minutes left in the game.
David de Gea was called into action in the 11th minute, stopping Steven Berghuis' curler.
The game was halted in the 16th minute after Eric Bailly received a knock and had to be attended to.
In the 24th minute Anthony Martial went close with a snap shot which went narrowly wide of the near post.
On the stroke of half time, Juan Mata couldn't connect with Marcus Rashford's knockdown as Feyernoord cleared their lines.
In the 63rd minute, United made a triple change with Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Memphis Depay and Ashley Young replacing Rashford, Martial and Mata.
Bilal Basacikoglu had a chance for Feyenoord on 74 minutes who cut inside from the right and shot but his effort went off target.
And in the 79th minute Vilhena put Feyenoord in front finishing off a cross from the right from a breakaway.
Young almost drew United level on 86 minutes from a goal mouth scramble but blasted over the bar.
In added time, United were awarded a free-kick in a good area but Ibrahimovic's shot was well saved by Brad Jones.
In other results, Fenebahce drew at Zorya in Group A with Dmytro Grechyshkin getting the hosts' goal before Simon Kjaer got a late equaliser for the Turks.
Former Super Eagles forward Emmanuel Emenike was introduced for Alper Potuk on 73 minutes as Fenerbahce chased the equaliser.
In Group B Brown Ideye was in action for Olympiakos who beat Young Boys 1-0.
Ideye was replaced by Oscar Cardozo in the 82nd minute.
Fred Friday made an appearance for AZ Alkmaar who were held to a 1-1 draw by Dundalk in Group D.
Friday later went off for Wouter Wedghorst 10 minutes into the second half.
Also in Group D, 10-man Maccabi Tel Aviv, with Nosa Igiebor in action, lost 4-3 at home to Zenit St. Petersburg.
Maccabi went 3-0 goals up before Zenit clawed their way back to claim the win.
In Group E, Olanrewaju Kayode was introduced in the 82nd minute for Kevin Friesenbichler as Austria Wien beat Astra Giurgiu 3-2 away.
And in Group F, Wilfred Ndidi saw 90 minutes of action as Genk lost 3-2 away to Rapid Wien.
